Meet The Team at the Back Pain Centre Sunderland

Jason Oshinowo – Osteopath
Jason Oshinowo, Osteopath at the Back Pain Centre Sunderland

Hi there! I graduated from the British College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2001 having completed a four year degree in Osteopathic Medicine. In 2007 I set up the Back Pain Centre Sunderland with my then girlfriend and now wife Bronyia. Our aim was to establish a clinic offering the people of Sunderland first class Spinal and Musculoskeletal health care.

Having experienced a disc herniation myself after numerous rugby injuries as a teenager, I benefited from the combined efforts of Osteopaths, Physiotherapists and Massage Therapists, so I’ve got first hand experience of how a multidisciplinary approach to spinal problems can bring rapid long lasting results.

I have a special interest in sports injuries and since opening the clinic I have the pleasure of working with several of the regions leading sportsmen including Andrew Thompson (Great Britain Power lifter) and Ross Pearson (Professional Mix Martial Artist).

Due to my understanding of what others with discomfort are going through and my experience as a clinician I can’t stress enough that in my opinion the best way of keeping your spine pain free and healthy is to stick to a Spinal Maintenance Program. The same way that you would get your teeth checked by your dentist, we recommend getting your spine checked out at least three or four times a year to make sure the joints are moving correctly and the muscles are functioning efficiently.

Bronyia Oshinowo – Massage Therapist
Bronyia Oshinowo, Massage Therapist at the Back Pain Centre Sunderland

Jason and I set up the Back Pain Centre Sunderland in early 2007. I graduated in 2003 with an ITEC diploma in Therapeutic Massage. Since then I have undergone further training and development in Deep Tissue, Thai and Sports Massage and I am skilled in a variety of therapeutic treatments including Swedish, Holistic and Indian Head Massage.

Since opening the clinic I have gained a wide range of clinical experience working alongside the Chiropractors, Osteopaths, Physiotherapists and other massage therapists. I have also worked at various corporate and sporting events, including the Great North run where I gave pre and post event massage to participating runners.

I really enjoy working as part of a team at the clinic because we are all working towards the same goal. The whole team are passionate about helping patients get out of pain, educating them on how to keep their spines healthy and preventing the problem reoccurring.

Kimberley Fordham – Chiropractor
Kim Fordham, Chiropractor at the Back Pain Centre Sunderland Treating A Pregnant LadyHiya I’m Kim. I graduated from the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic with a Masters degree in Chiropractic in 2007. I chose a career in Chiropractic because I am passionate about providing a holistic approach to spinal health care.

Since graduating I have worked for clinics in Hampshire and Gateshead. I have enjoyed treating a wide range of patients of all ages and walks of life. I have a special interest in Paediatric and Pregnancy care and go on regular courses to continue my professional development in these specialised areas.

I feel it is important for patients to realise that although the treatments available at the clinic can help with pain relief, muscle spasm and joint mobility, the really exciting and unique aspect of the Back Pain Centre Sunderland is that we specialise in ‘Maintenance care’ i.e. our aim is to prevent your spine from ‘breaking down’ in the first place by encouraging regular Spinal checkups as well as well as providing our patients with ongoing nutritional, ergonomic and exercise advice and support.

Kirsty Burrows – Massage & Exercise Therapy
Kirsty Burrows Performing a Massage, Massage and Exercise Therapist at Back Pain Centre SunderlandHiya I’m Kirsty the clinic’s Massage and Exercise therapist. I provide a wide range of massages including Sports, Relaxation, Hot Stone and Indian head, I also provide a range of exercise therapies such as spinal rehabilitation, postural improvement, golf conditioning, ski conditioning and personal training.

Before joining the team at the Back Pain Centre Sunderland in April 2009, I worked for a number of major health clubs as a fitness instructor and worked with various sports teams around the north east including football and rugby. I have also massaged participants at various runs around the north east raising money for charity.

I enjoy attending courses to continue my professional development and make sure I am up to date with the latest techniques and treatments. I passionately believe that regular massage and exercise keeps the muscles and joints supple and pain free and is essential in maintaining a healthy spine and musculoskeletal system.

So remember although our treatments aid recovery and provide pain relief, prevention is always better than cure!

Karen Liddle – Clinical Assistant
Karen Liddle, Clinical Assistant at the Back Pain Centre SunderlandI joined the team at the Back Pain Centre Sunderland as a Clinical Assistant in July 2008. Stepping into the clinic I felt instantly at ease, a feeling I hope I can promote to all the patients who walk through the door (not the regular “stuffy” Dr’s office). Practically as soon as I started at the clinic I started having regular treatments, for a frozen shoulder problem, which I had suffered with for well over a year. Within a few months I was pain free with full movement restored. As well as aiming for a good diet and regular exercise I continue to get regular spinal adjustments to keep me healthy and supple! This may also be why I have not taken any time off work for illness since I started. A number of my friends and family have also started to attend the clinic and enjoy the benefit of regular ‘Spinal MOT’s’, to keep their spines pain free and as healthy as possible.

Eileen Gordon – Clinical Assistant
Eileen Gordon, Clinical Assistant at the Back Pain Centre SunderlandI joined the Back Pain Centre Sunderland in January 2009. Since starting work at the clinic I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of educating the people of Sunderland about spinal healthcare. I also enjoy chatting with patients and watching them go through their journey in care. To help and encourage them on the way to a pain free healthy spine. I remember the start of my journey 8 years ago. I had a car crash in 1995 which left me with disc bulges in my neck and lower back. After no success with the usual medical route of painkillers and rest, I sort treatment with a chiropractor and his treatment finally got to the root of the problem. I was so inspired by my own improvements that I ended up working for a Chiropractor as a practice manager for seven years. I now look forward to the challenge of working in a dynamic multidisciplinary team specialising in spinal health.

I continue along with the rest of my family to have regular ‘Spinal MOT’s’ to help keep me healthy and ‘balanced’!
